Personal Assistant / Buddy - Job Ref PIP-SN

Location: Kilmarnock

Hours:     16hrs per week 

Pay:         £11.00 - £11.50 p/h


Job Description:

You will provide support and be a buddy to a 57-year-old man with a learning disability.  You will provide support in all aspects of daily living and taking care of his home.  Your input is required in the form of prompting, reminding, and suggesting how to take care of both the home and the individual’s personal hygiene.  He is more than capable of doing these things himself but needs encouragement and reminders.  You will also assist him in his dealings with the benefit system, making/attending medical appointments and arranging utilities etc.  


You will help with planning journeys on public transport to promote independence.  You will be a buddy and accompany the client to his favourite hobbies such as playing pool, bowling and attending car races.


Person Specification:

You must be patient, compassionate and trustworthy.  Previous experience in person centred working practices and promoting inclusion and independence is desirable but not essential.  The ability to work on own initiative and listen to the individual needs of the person.


Terms/Rate of Pay:

Rate of pay is £11.00 per hr rising to £11.50 after successful completion of 6 months probationary period.  16 hrs flexible over 7 days.  

Mileage: business miles re-imbursed at 45p per mile.

The hours and days worked are very flexible to fit with individual needs of the client, the workers, and the activity. 


Essential skills/experience:      

Ideally the candidate can drive and have access to their own car. Candidates are required to be part of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and provide a minimum of two references
